Welcome to Hotel California! This fabulous ten room, fully functional birdhouse is inspired by the main pavillion of the iconic Del Coronado Hotel. A San Diego landmark, the Del has welcomed Presidents, royalty and Hollywood celebrities for over 100 years. Our dramatic Victorian design with its signature red roof and peek-a-boo dormers is topped off with a cupola proudly flying an American flag. This house comes equipped with a mounting base with a sleeve for setting on top of a standard 4 x 4 base. In order to attract Purple Martins, the recommended location of this house should be a combination of open fields and water. The house should be 12 to 14 feet high. To clean, remove the 5 brass screws from the bottom.

The single story body has ten individual apartments, each with a 1.875" diameter entry hole. Each triangular compartment measures 5.5" tall, 6.5" deep, and 4.875" wide at the front, and has a ledge in front of it for perching and takeoffs. The offset design of the ledges diminishes territory disputes between males and helps increase occupancy. Two lines of dormers encircle the dramatic, maroon roof, leading to the white and maroon cupola for exciting height and a faithful reproduction. Wooden shingles also adorn the roof, bringing more texture and architecture to the home, while a stylized American flag extends from the cupola to complete the item. The flat base has a single hole beneath each apartment for drainage, and is removable for seasonal nest checks. It also enables this home to be displayed on a flat surface, indoors or out. For housing martins, use the included mounting bracket to place the home on a 4 x 4 wooden post (not included). The white exterior and tall roof help regulate nest temperatures, while the unpainted interior helps keep nestlings safe. The kiln-dried hardwood and exterior-grade plyboard construction enhances your outdoor sanctuary and will last for several seasons.
